John Saunders spent more than two decades as a Wall Street SVP, sales team leader, and award-winning sales executive. During that time, he successfully led several key initiatives including effectively redesigning how to leverage data at scale, and reshaping internal training to change the mindset and culture of the organization to innovate on behalf of clients. This led to his team building the first $1bn ETF franchise in the firm.

He followed his passion for helping others grow and drive impactful change by founding a coaching and consulting company, Forward Advisory Solutions, and wrote a book, The Optimizer: Building and Leading a Team of Serial Innovators. 

A recent coaching highlight was guiding a self-proclaimed “introverted” client and author to think differently about what was possible. This led to a week-long safari and book launch event sponsored by the Ugandan Government where Saunders found himself face-to-face with a mountain gorilla.
He holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from Georgetown University. Additionally, Saunders spent years as a member of the Georgetown MBA Alumni Advisory Council, is an active angel investor, and is a formal mentor in the Georgetown MBA program.

Aren't negative emotions sometimes helpful?

Some people believe that negative emotions are helpful. For example, they think stress gives them their performance edge, or beating themselves or others up is helpful for continual improvement.

Feeling pain for a split second when your hand touches a hot stove is indeed useful, delivering an important alert. But your Saboteurs keep your hand on the hot stove, continuing to feel negative emotions that harm both performance and happiness.

In this program, we learn to use negative emotions as a helpful alert, and then quickly shift to the positive region of the brain that has the calm clarity, objectivity, and creativity to handle the challenge most effectively.

What will I be able to do on completing this course?

Habit Formation:
Most training results in short-lived improvements. For sustained results, we focus on building neural pathways that form lasting new habits. That’s why we call this “mental fitness.”
